About Us

Loop Abroad was created to provide a new kind of summer abroad program for high school students. Not a language program and not a tour, Loop Abroad's trips are an opportunity for students to pursue subjects of interest as they relate to pressing global issues, while exploring and learning about a new culture.

When we wanted a place for students to study ecology and conservation, we knew that Chiang Mai, Thailand would be perfect. There, students can see the interplay of the environment with both developing indigenous cultures and modern global industry. To make this possible we’ve partnered with a diverse sample of some of the best conservation programs in Thailand.

We spend two weeks caring for and understanding the plight of Asian elephants , but our trip is about a lot more than that. It's about seeing all the angles and understanding the challenges decision-makers face when trying to bring about positive change in the world. We strongly believe our students will need these skills as they choose their future paths for college and the rest of their lives.

Students will see first-hand the measures taken to help the Asian elephant in Thailand. While evaluating the successes and failures of these efforts, they will discover the competing incentives and goals of different organizations in the nation, even amongst those sharing a common purpose. Understanding this struggle, itself a model of the way the world works, will prepare students to solve complex global problems, environmental or otherwise.
