How to apply for a Loop Abroad Program

Get Ready: You should collect all the required pieces of your application first to make the process easier!

  1. Essay: You will need to write a short essay (approximately 400 words) on why you want to attend a Loop Abroad program, what you think you can bring to the group, and what you hope to get out of the experience.
  2. Transcript: You will need to attach a transcript. An unofficial transcript (a screenshot, a scanned copy, a legible photo taken with your phone, etc) is acceptable. If you are currently in your first year of college and would prefer to send a HS transcript, you may. If you have been out of school for a long time and would prefer to attach an up-to-date resume, you may.
  3. References: You will need to provide us the name and contact information (email and/or phone) for two academic or professional references. Acceptable references would include current or former teachers, professors, volunteer supervisors, bosses, work supervisors, club supervisors, clergy, or others who have supervised you in an academic, volunteer, service, or work capacity. Unacceptable references would include classmates, significant others, parents, and anyone who is related to you.
  4. Application Fee: There is an application fee of $50 that can be paid by credit or debit card, cash, money order, or check. When you complete your application, you will be asked to submit your application fee. Your application will not be processed until the fee is received. The application fee is non-refundable.
  5. Proof of Income (if applying for financial aid): If you plan to submit an application for financial aid after submitted your application for admission, you should prepare a document that shows your proof of income. A copy of last year's tax returns or FAFSA is the most common proof of income document.

Fill out the Application
Once you have all the materials together, you can fill out an application for admission here. If you are applying for financial aid, you can fill out the financial aid application here after your admissions application is complete.

If you've collected your essay, transcript, and reference information before beginning the application, it should only take you about 10 minutes to complete.

Pay your Application Fee
Once you've submitted the application, you'll be taken to a confirmation page on which you can pay the $50 application fee.

Get an Admissions Decision
Once we've received your application, we will notify you if anything is missing. It generally takes about a week from receiving a complete application to send you an admissions decision. Admissions decisions will include notice of your financial aid award, if applicable. If you are not admitted, your notification will include suggestions to improve your application for next year.

Applying does not obligate you to attend or to pay any tuition. If you are accepted, you can then decide if you'd like to attend. Your space in the program is not held until your deposit is paid. Once you pay the deposit, it is non-refundable.

If you are accepted and decide not to attend, just send us an email and let us know, and that's it!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I want to attend, but my grades aren't perfect. Will I be accepted?
A: When we evaluate an application, we're not looking for perfect grades or extensive travel experience. We're looking for someone who truly wants to be a great member of their team experience and who has a good attitude. We have students from private schools and public schools. We have students who've traveled extensively and students whose first plane ride is with us. The most important thing to us is demonstrating your ability to be a positive team member.

Q: Are there payment plans available?
A: Of course. Payments can be spread out from the time of your acceptance to the time of your trip at not extra cost. We will work with you to find a payment schedule that fits you and your family, and gives you plenty of time to fundraise if needed. Once you receive your tuition statement, please contact us if you need a different structure to your payment schedule.

Q: I can't decide which program I want to apply for - what should I do?
A: You can contact us to help us find the best program for you! Or, you can apply for your first-choice program, and if you change your mind later you can switch programs without applying again or paying any additional fees (as long as there is space). Or, you can join together two programs or combine a program with a bonus week in order to build a custom 4-week or 3-week adventure that's perfect for you!

Q: When is the application due?
A: There is no application deadline. Admissions decisions are made on a rolling basis, so your application will be processed when it's submitted. There is no time of year that is "best" to apply in terms of your application being accepted, but the earlier you apply, the more space is available.

Q: I know that I want to attend, but I don't know my schedule yet. Can I change program dates after I'm accepted?
A: As long as it is at least 60 days before the program begins, you can request to switch your enrollment to another program or set of dates as long as there is space available. Your acceptance and any tuition payments made will transfer, though any financial aid offers or payment schedules may be adjusted depending on the program and choice of dates. Your deposit, once paid, is NOT transferable to a future year and cannot be refunded under any circumstances.

Q: I have a special circumstance and need help with my application!
A: No problem! Please contact us by email, phone, contact form, or Facebook message, and we'll see if we can help.
