Frequently Asked Questions
What is the faculty to student ratio?
Our 20-25 students will be served by a full-time staff of 4, as well as additional support staff at the Elephant Nature Park.
Is financial aid available?
Yes. Please see our Financial Aid section for more information. Financial aid can vary from a waiver of the application fee to a full scholarship for the program. Information on our new academic scholarships is available here.
Do Loop Abroad programs satisfy my school’s volunteer or service requirement?
Generally, yes. Loop Abroad will happily contact your high school to confirm that our program satisfies your school’s service or volunteer requirements. The full week we spend at the Elephant Nature Park generally meets the subject and hourly requirements of high school service graduation requirements. You are advised to obtain this approval from your school before participating in the program if satisfying this requirement is important to you.
I am just outside the age requirement. Can I still apply?
Participants in our program must be between the ages of 15 and 18 as of their date of departure. We can make exceptions to this enrollment requirement for students in special circumstances. Please contact us with specific questions.
Can I participate in just part of the program?
Not really. Our month abroad is structured for the activities to build on themselves. Students must participate in all academic, leadership, and volunteer activities, and are expected to do so willingly and with a positive spirit. Student can of course sit out from purely recreational activities if they choose.
Can I make my own living arrangements?
No. All students must live in Loop-sponsored accommodations. The price of these accommodations is negotiated on your behalf and included in tuition. The experience of living together is essential to our team environment and to logistical matters including meals and safety provisions.
Can I arrive late to the program or leave early if I have a scheduling conflict?
Usually, no. The program is designed to prepare and equip students to fully embrace local culture and take advantage of all the experiences we provide. Completion of the entire curriculum by every participant is necessary for our team projects to succeed. Our projects will be cumulative, and require your participation from beginning to end.
How will I know if I have been accepted?
The Program Director will contact you in writing to notify you whether or not you have been accepted. Responses will generally reach students within a few weeks of their applying.
What if I am waitlisted?
The Program Director can give you an idea of the length of the waitlist, and will speak with you to confirm whether you wish to remain on the waitlist once you have been placed there. Loop Abroad will make best efforts to confirm student participants as early as possible, so that students who have been waitlisted have a fair chance to respond.
How do I make a payment?
Loop Abroad accepts personal check as its primary form of payment. All checks may be made payable to Loop Abroad. Those choosing to pay with a credit card or through paypal may pay through our website, although a processing fee will be charged.
