Carol Sotto Mayor Padua, DVM
Veterinarian
Carol is a nature lover, a Brazilian wildlife vet, and passionate about adventure. Her desire to go into the field and gain hands-on experience with wild animals led her to graduate as a veterinarian from the State University of São Paulo (UNESP), Botucatu campus, Brazil. In her final year of college (the internship year), she traveled throughout the country and had amazing experiences in different conservation projects and zoos. Her favorite experience was participating in a tapir research expedition in the Pantanal (although she doesn’t miss the tick bites).
After finishing college, she volunteered with a research group on the Southern Muriqui, working in the field for a year to monitor and survey the wild population in Serra da Bocaina National Park. She then entered a two-year Residency Program in Wildlife Medicine at the Federal Rural University of the Amazon (UFRA). During this period, she was a grantee of the Rising Leaders Program of the Wildlife Conservation Network (WCN).
While living in the Amazon, Carol used all of her free time to rest, travel, and explore different cultures and natural parks in the region of Belém, Pará, Brazil. She loves trying new foods and sports, learning local idioms, and participating in cultural events, as well as learning about local biodiversity through wildlife watching. Carol’s favorite activities are hiking, slacklining (or trying), yoga, writing, and drawing.
