Gila Sauspeter, DVM

Veterinarian

Gila is a veterinarian from Germany, working in a clinic with small animals and exotics. She has had a great passion for all kinds of animals since childhood, which led her to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. During her time at the university, she worked as a student assistant in a clinic with horses as well as in a clinic with birds and reptiles, gaining valuable hands-on experience in animal care. Additionally, she completed various externships in zoos, where she focused on the care and treatment of wild animals in captivity. Gila has a particular interest in various species, and alongside marine mammals, rhinos are among her favorite animals. She is currently pursuing her doctoral thesis on African rhino nutrition in European zoos, which has sparked her strong interest in zoo animal nutrition. Gila enjoys combining research with clinical work, as it allows her to apply scientific findings directly to animal care. In her free time, Gila enjoys sports—especially dancing—reading, and cooking.
