Hailey Roman

South Africa Support Staff

Hailey grew up in Fredericksburg, Virginia. She started fostering dogs at 10 years old and quickly realized how much she enjoyed caring for animals. During her undergraduate degree at Virginia Tech, she volunteered with the Pre-Vet Club and worked at a high-volume spay and neuter clinic as a veterinary assistant. She graduated in May 2022 with a Bachelor’s in Animal and Poultry Sciences. Hailey was accepted into the DVM Class of 2026 at Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine (VMCVM) and started classes in the fall of 2022. She is a member of the Public Veterinary Practice Club, Surgery Club, Veterinary Imaging Club, and the American Association of Wildlife Veterinarians Rep at VMCVM. She is also a Wildlife Ward Coordinator that conducts wildlife intakes and triages patients at the veterinary teaching hospital. In addition, she is a student ambassador for VMCVM and a mentor to pre-vet students at Virginia Tech. Hailey was a student in the Thailand High School Pre-Vet Medicine Program in 2017 and South Africa Zoo Medicine Program in 2022. She had an incredible time during both trips and is extremely grateful for the opportunities the programs offered. She is excited to work with Loop Abroad and help provide students with the same amazing experiences she had. In her spare time, Hailey enjoys watching TV, reading, baking, and spending time with friends and family. Her favorite animals are sloths and baby hippos, and she hopes to work with both at some point in her career. She has two dogs, Simba and Reece, who are the best rescue pups and bring her lots of joy.
