Jamie Douglas, DVM

Veterinarian

Dr. Jamie M Douglas is a veterinarian, boarded in the field of theriogenology. Currently, she is finishing up her doctoral research focused on gene expression in the canine placenta. Dr. Douglas graduated from the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2014, after which she completed an internship in veterinary anesthesia with MSU in 2015. She went on to complete her master’s degree in animal reproduction at Southern Illinois University Carbondale before joining UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine as a postdoctoral scholar (Avian Welfare and Analgesia) from 2016-2018. From 2018-2022 she worked at Auburn University as the American Kennel Club/Canine Health Foundation/Theriogenology Foundation resident, where she earned her second master’s degree in veterinary biomedical sciences. She joined the Agnew Lab in 2022 as a doctoral student while also serving as a tutor for veterinary students during their didactic studies. In 2023, Dr. Douglas was awarded an AKC Clinician-Scientist award to support her research on the canine placenta. Throughout her time in academia, Jamie has actively sought both learning and teaching opportunities to expand her knowledge and foster excitement in future generations of scientists. Wildlife and wild animals have been a constant part of her career. She was fortunate enough to work as a wildlife ward coordinator throughout veterinary school. She participated in a veterinary student exchange program to Mato Grosso do Sul, studying at the federal university, working in local wildlife rehabilitation and in the Pantanal wetlands. She also worked as a docent with Lansing’s Potter Park Zoo for several years.
