Kenan Ganesan, DVM

Veterinarian

Dr. Kenan Ganesan grew up in Durban, South Africa, where an early fascination with animals, particularly wildlife, shaped his career path. As a teenager, he volunteered at the Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW) in Durban, gaining hands-on exposure to native species and wildlife medicine. At age 17, he relocated to Pretoria to pursue a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc) at the University of Pretoria, graduating in 2022. He later completed his Compulsory Community Service year in Cape Town, where he continues to practice. He is currently a veterinarian in private practice in Cape Town with a special interest in exotics and wildlife medicine. His clinical experience includes work with exotic companion animals at Exotic Vet Century City and collaboration with the Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB), where he has been involved in the care and rehabilitation of African penguins. Over the course of his training and professional work, he has encountered a diverse range of species, including pangolins, african penguins, small-spotted genets, African striped weasels, flamingos, and a variety of exotic pets. His professional interests include exotic animal medicine, wildlife rehabilitation, and surgery. He is particularly drawn to roles that integrate clinical veterinary work with conservation and animal management, with long-term aspirations of serving as a zoo veterinarian and curator. Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Ganesan enjoys playing indoor soccer, exploring new restaurants, and following Liverpool Football Club. He has two beautiful cats, Miss Chuchi and Richard Parker. He speaks English and Afrikaans, and a little isiZulu.
