Kenneth Burris, DVM
Veterinarian
A native Washingtonian, born in Washington, DC and raised in Montgomery County, MD, Dr. Burris graduated from Georgetown Preparatory School (North Bethesda), where he was co-President of the Black Student Association and was inducted into the United States Spanish National Honors Society. He was also nominated to be an exchange student, studying abroad in Zaragoza, Spain (Europe). Dr. Burris then graduated from Tufts University (Massachusetts), double majored in Biomedical Engineering and Sociology and minored in Africana Studies (Bachelors Degree). He was also Vice-President of the Tufts Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students (MAPS). Dr. Burris then went on to graduate from Hampton University Graduate College (Virginia) with a Master of Science in Medical Science. As a child, Dr. Burris grew up with all types of pets including 2 dogs, 4 rabbits, 10 gerbils, iguana, newt, ferret, several fish, and 15 ducks (mallard and peking). Dr. Burris has always had a passion for both medicine and animals, but he never saw a veterinarian that looked like him growing up, so he was hesitant at first to apply to veterinary medical school. Dr. Burris ultimately graduated from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) Degree in 2022. He was a member of the student government as a Class of 2022’s Diversity Committee Representative, a position he held throughout veterinary medical school. Dr. Burris also completed a Business Minor in Health Sciences at The Ohio State Fisher College of Business, while in vet school. After graduation, Dr. Burris matched into a Small Animal Medicine and Surgery Internship at Tufts Veterinary Emergency and Treatment Specialties Hospital(a Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine affiliated Hospital). His professional interests include primary care and urgent care, the Human-Animal bond, ophthalmology, dermatology, cardiology, general dentistry, and surgery. Dr. Burris loves reading a good book, traveling, going to the gym, drinking coffee, running, playing tennis and soccer, going to the movies, watching professional sports, going to concerts, mentoring pre-vet and vet students, and taking care of his two dogs, Nyah (American Rat Terrier) and Bohdi (Rottweiler/Hound mix).
