Laura Kankainen, DVM

Veterinarian

Laura studied veterinary medicine at Helsinki University, in her home country Finland. She has volunteered at street animal charities and wildlife rescue centers in different parts of the world, including Finland, Malawi, and Thailand. Back at home she mostly works with companion animals but in 2024 she had a chance to work as a wildlife veterinarian with sloths and other fascinating wild animals in Costa Rica. Later in 2024, she moved to Sri Lanka to treat injured and sick street dogs and cats. She has some additional training in oil spill response and treating oiled marine birds. Besides birds, she’s passionate about all wildlife, especially pangolins! She loves living both in the tropics and in the mountains of northern Italy, which is why she now has multiple homes across the globe. In her free time she does a bunch of activities, like yoga, hiking, climbing, surfing, and wildlife photography.
