Isabel is a Portuguese veterinarian and conservationist who graduated from the University of Lisbon in 2016. She has experience in wildlife and zoological medicine, conservation medicine, and emergency and critical care. Throughout her career, she has worked with wildlife rescue centres, safari parks, companion animal hospitals, and conservation organisations in Portugal, Australia, Bolivia, India, Ireland, and Spain. Her work has included the medical care and rehabilitation of many different species, including large carnivores, pinnipeds, primates, marsupials, birds, reptiles, giraffes, and antelopes. She has a particular interest in wildlife soft tissue surgery and chemical immobilization and more recently has dedicated her time to develop new skills in seal medicine and conservation. Isabel has also participated in conservation projects, environmental education, scientific communication, volunteer coordination, and leadership roles within veterinary and wildlife teams. She enjoys working in adaptable, multidisciplinary environments and is especially motivated by projects that combine animal welfare, conservation, research, and public engagement. Outside of veterinary medicine, Isabel loves travelling, a good quiz night, live music, exploring nature- land and sea- and observing wildlife in their natural habitats. She is passionate about photography, snorkeling, indoor bouldering, and outdoor adventures, and shares her life with her 8-year-old Labrador, Ben.
