Nathalia Vazquez is a passionate and driven animal science graduate from the University of California, Davis, Class of 2023. With a B.S. in Animal Science and a specialization in equine sciences, she has developed a strong foundation in animal care and welfare across a diverse range of species, including primates, livestock, reptiles, and small animals. Growing up in a small California town right on the border with Mexico, she’s always had a deep connection to animals, culture, and the outdoors which have shaped her personal and professional journey. In 2023, she studied abroad in South Africa with Loop Abroad, where she worked closely with veterinarians to learn about the animal husbandry and veterinary care in a zoo environment. She then discovered her passion for inspiring young minds to appreciate and protect wildlife. She quotes, “Passion for animals isn’t something we can simply teach kids and trust they will grow to protect them. What we can do is find the young minds who already have that spark— and show them what we know now to motivate them to explore what we can know later.“ In 2024, Nathalia volunteered at a wildlife rescue center, gaining hands-on experience in the rescue, rehabilitation, and release process. This experience ignited a deep commitment to conservation, which now guides her career path. After graduating, Nathalia applied to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service as a game warden, where she aspires to become an undercover agent combatting illegal animal trafficking. Nathalia is bilingual in English and Spanish, and she brings that cultural connection into all she does. Outside of work, she leads an active lifestyle. As an Escaramuza—a female rider in charrería, Mexico’s national equestrian sport—she honors her heritage and has competed at the national level. She’s also a dedicated runner and loves hiking with her 110-pound dog, Cloud. Her biggest supporters are her parents and two younger siblings, who are always front row for her accomplishments and passion for animals.
