Shulamit Ostrove
Group Leader
Born and raised in Paris, France, Shulamit earned her Baccalauréat from the École Alsacienne in 2023, before moving to the United States to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Pre-Veterinary Sciences at UMass Amherst. Following graduation, she plans to attend veterinary school and start her career as a small animal veterinarian. Shulamit’s interest in veterinary medicine began in high school, where she shadowed veterinarians at a local small animal clinic. After relocating to the U.S., she expanded her clinical experience by working as a veterinary assistant at a small animal and exotics clinic in New York City. While much of her hands-on experience centers on dogs and cats, she also has a longstanding background in equine care from years spent in stables. Her undergraduate studies have further broadened her exposure to livestock, including sheep, goats, pigs, and cattle, and she has recently begun working with white-tailed deer in a research lab setting. In addition to her clinical and academic work, Shulamit mentors incoming students at UMass through a biology-focused orientation program. Outside of her studies and academically focused activities, Shulamit remains committed to her personal passions, such as dance and horseback riding. She also loves a long bike ride and has recently caught the running bug. She enjoys photography, learning about different types of music, both old and new, and often uses all these interests to connect with others. Over the year, she’s been able to travel a bit with her friends and family, and the hope is to continue exploring new places and learning about new cultures. Shulamit is passionate about combining her dedication to veterinary medicine with her enthusiasm for cultural exchange.
