Sydney graduated with honors this spring from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor’s in Biological Sciences and a minor in Environmental Sciences. She spent her final semester abroad at University College Cork in Ireland, and loves immersing herself in new adventures. Her love for travel took her on many weekend adventures outside of Ireland, with Fuerteventura, Spain being her favorite. Sydney is planning to take a gap year before applying for a master’s program, and hopes to squeeze in some more travel during this time. In terms of work experience, she worked as a resident advisor, learning assistant, and undergraduate researcher in a nematology lab. In the nematology lab, she conducted a greenhouse assay to study non-chemical alternatives to nematicides in tomato plants. While most of her work experiences were spent with plants, she grew up spending part of the summer helping to take care of her grandmother’s horses. Additionally, in the summer of 2025 she participated in a summer abroad in Thailand working with elephants, companion animals, and got scuba certified while learning about marine conservation. Sydney is very passionate about conservation and sustainability, and her favorite activities are all spent outside, including beach volleyball. She was the social chair for the Club Beach Volleyball team at North Carolina State, and used her role to promote volunteer experiences between the club and local community organizations. She loves spending days in the mountains hiking or relaxing on the beach, and her favorite food is ice cream! Most importantly, she has an amazing dog named Lexi, who is around 15 years old.
