Vivek Basu, DVM

Veterinarian

Dr. Vivek Basu earned his B.Sc at the University of Guelph, and his DVM at the Ontario Veterinary College.

After graduation, Vivek worked at multiple small animal clinics throughout Canada, as well as volunteering with a primate sanctuary where he assisted with a lemur chemotherapy protocol. He has continued volunteering abroad including working with displaced and injured Himalayan black bears, one-horned rhinos, and Asiatic elephants in India; buffalos, impalas, kudus, and African rhinos in South Africa; squirrel monkeys, lemurs, capuchins, and macaques at a rehabilitation center; and spay/neuter and vaccine programs for Maasai livestock. He has even traveled to Tanzania to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Through an international veterinary organization, he worked with local small animal shelters for spay/neuter programs, rabies clinics, and a vaccination program for Maasai livestock.

At home, he works with exotic pets in clinical practice, including reptiles and small mammals. In his free time, he loves spending time with his animals Flash, Aria, and Zeus; playing video games; cooking; and seeing the world.
