Chiang Mai Night Safari offers awesome learning opportunities Loop Abroad students!
They have a huge diversity of species from tiny squirrel monkeys, fennec foxes, and meerkats to large Siberian tigers, giraffes, and elephants. They’re also home to some Southeast Asian species you may not have seen before, including the binturong, fishing cat, and Chinese goral.
The Night Safari sits on more than 320 acres, which is actually larger than Night Safari Singapore, which inspired its construction! Behind the scenes, their animal care area includes a veterinary hospital, large nutrition center, and an enrichment center with a dedicated team that oversees enrichment for all the animals in their care.
You’ll have the opportunity to ride on the two long open-air trams (Savanna Safari and Predator Prowl) that pass by (and sometimes through!) enclosures including kangaroo, ostriches and zebra, giraffes, multiple species of bear and tiger, lions, elephants, and more.
Depending on the program, our students may have the chance to learn hands-on with the zoo’s ambassador animals, study and practice enclosure design and evaluation, research animal behavior, or design and implement an enrichment item for an animal in the zoo.
Night Safari is an excellent partner for our programs focusing on the study of the keeping and veterinary management of wildlife under human care.
Loop Abroad has also partnered with Chiang Mai Night Safari in support of their scientific mission. In 2022 we were proud to host a joint training seminar in captive wildlife management for the Night Safari team featuring one of our Veterinary Instructors – Peter DiGeronimo, DVM.
